Introduction
The Centro di Documentazione su Lorenzo Ghiberti aims to offer the critical catalogue of all the bibliographical resources on Ghiberti, of all the records concerning his life and artistic production, of all the original works of art as well as those variously attributed to him or to his atelier, of all the copies of Ghiberti’s masterpieces, of all the artistic collaboration he managed to establish, and of all the other sources, resources, studies and works concerning Lorenzo Ghiberti as a man and as an artist.
The web database consists of description files, called Item, based on the data necessary to the recognition of the resource and on a brief critical apparatus. The files will be revised and validated in time by experts from different research areas.
The Items are sorted into Collections: the records and the published studies, along with their abstracts, are gathered in the Texts section; Ghiberti’s masterpieces, his atelier’s artistic production and their copies are filed under Works of art, together with the engravings and photographies that brought their fame to the entire world; brief catalogue files about other artists -associates, apprentices, disciples- working together with Ghiberti are shown in Partners.
