Project

Ghibertiana is a university project involving the departments of Architecture (DIDA), Humanities (SAGAS), Agriculture (DAGRI) and Information Engineering (DINFO) of the University of Florence.

It is a cross-disciplinary project promoting the connection between Lorenzo Ghiberti’s works of art and the Valdisieve cultural heritage, where Ghiberti was born and had some of his possession.

Ghibertiana is working on the creation of the Centro di Documentazione su Lorenzo Ghiberti, a database collecting all the digital resources concerning Ghiberti and his works, an access point to the artist’s world for all the researchers; and the Centro di Interpretazione del territorio della bassa Valdisieve, where it will be possible to gain the information needed to comprehend, with the right historic perspective, the most important places of the valley (Le terre del Ghiberti).

Il Centro di Interpretazione is the result of the collaboration between the University of Florence with Regione Toscana, Unione dei Comuni Valdarno e Valdisieve, Opera del Duomo di Santa Maria del Fiore, Accademia dei Georgofili, Opificio delle Pietre Dure and local communities. The Centro di Interpretazione will work as a hub for all the local cultural workers, connecting -and improving the connections- between all the stakeholders.

The two Centri will be structured based on the specific requirements needed to the production of a museum 4.0, offering in time different and new contents from their databases. The DiStoRi Heritage department of the Università Politecnica delle Marche is working with Ghibertiana for the digitalization of cultural goods.
