Description
The essay looks further into the studies on Nicola da Guardiagrele, focusing on his works of art that got inspired by Ghiberti’s art. Specifically, the author supposes that the clear influence Ghiberti had on one of the most important goldsmith from Abruzzo, may be due to a trip Nicola da Guardiagrele took to Florence for a very short time, just as Ghiberti’s first door for the Baptistery was to be completed; or can be explained if Nicola had available some casts of a few panels of the Door already finished. Those casts were to be used a short time after for the panels of the St. Berardo altar frontal (a work of art signed by Nicola) and for the reliefs in Castel di Sangro (a needed restoration of which may support the attribution to Nicola himself) and his many cross pieces.
