It briefly outlines Ghiberti’s value, focusing on the Gates of Paradise and on the panel for the contest in 1401; with many references to Cicognara’s studies. The author thinks of Ghiberti as a forerunner of the Renaissance and highlights the leading role of his workshop, from which the innovative Florentine culture spread all through Tuscany and beyond.
