Lorenzo Ghiberti has an entire chapter dedicated to him in this volume, this chapter regards his early work years and the making of the Gates of Paradise, a sculptory masterpiece that the author nevertheless considers explicative of the importance of drawing in Italian art. There is also some information about two copies of the Gates, one in France, one in England. This chapter was punlished again in 1866 by The American Art Journal with the title "Lives of the Early Painters: Lorenzo Ghiberti".
