Lorenzo Ghiberti

Title

Lorenzo Ghiberti

Description

Ghiberti career is reviewed through his main works of art. After a brief biography, the writer examines all the best known works of art by Ghiberti: the doors for the Baptistery, the statues at Orsanmichele, the panels for the baptismal font in Siena, St. Zenobius’ bronze shrine, Ludovico degli Obizi's, Bartolomeo Valori's and Leonardo Dati's -here called Stagi- headstones in Florence and the miters fro Pope Martin V and Pope Eugene IV. There are numerous references to Ghiberti’s, or at least presumed to be so, contemporary and autographed manuscripts.
