Lorenzo Ghiberti, il "Sigillo di Nerone" e le origini della placchetta 'antiquaria'

The article retraces the different owners of the “Sigillo di Nerone” [Nero’s seal] after it was decorated with a frame by Ghiberti, as he had wrote in the Commentary. The ancient item was owned by the Camerlengo and Patriarch Trevisan and was in Rome up until 1471, when it was sent back to Florence. Before the Sigillo was located in the Farnese collection, Ghiberti’s decoration was removed; in the meantime a cast was done, that led to the production of at least a dozen plaquettes, listed in the article.
