The analysis on the casting technique used by Ghiberti for the Gate of Paradise panels confirmed the lost-wax method; on the other hand, it unearthed an unusual and unknown apparatus of draining canals. Different theories about the technical innovations used by Ghiberti were then developed, all based on two elements: an excessive presence of air bubbles in the casted bronze and its consequent fragility.
