I punzoni per il fiorino sulla Porta del Paradiso: Michelozzo e Bernardo Cennini

Title

I punzoni per il fiorino sulla Porta del Paradiso: Michelozzo e Bernardo Cennini

Description

During the years when the third door of the Baptistery made by Lorenzo Ghiberti between 1425 and 1452 , was restored, many marks impressed on the back of the frame were been found. The marks were identified as parts of the Florentine coin: the florin. Probably, Lorenzo Ghiberti was called to judge who between Michelozzo di Bartolomeo or Bernardo Cennini, both his employees, had to be chosen by Calimala Art, which had the patronage on the Baptistery, to be the responsible for making coins in the Mint of Florence. Cennini was the winner and obtained one of the job most desired by goldsmiths. [official abstract]
