Ghiberti on the destruction of Art

Title

Ghiberti on the destruction of Art

Description

The article describes how Ghiberti may have had a strong desire to make his fame everlasting and that his attempts in large-scale statues, using bronze, starting anew a sculpture school, even writing his own biography alongside the greatest artists’ one should be regarded from this perspective. This could also explain the references in the Commentary to the destruction of works of art, as the main hindrance to everlasting fame.
